Unit of measurement: The cubit is an ancient unit of length that was based on the distance from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger. It was commonly used by the Egyptians, Israelites, and Sumerians. The cubit was usually around 45.7 centimeters, but in some ancient cultures it was as long as 531 millimeters. In some cultures it was as much as 21 inches long, which has been noted below as the "long cubit." The term "cubit" appears in the Bible in reference to the Ark of the Covenant, Noah's Ark, Solomon's Temple, and the Tabernacle.
